Made by Yasser Talebi during five years, the Iranian flick won the award for best short documentary at the 15th edition of the Russian event.
The documentary follows the story of Sorayya and Seyyed-Jalal, an underprivileged old couple who live in a distant village in the north of Iran.
‘I Won’t Remain Alone’ paints pictures of forgiveness, love, humanity and immortality.
Set to compete at the Sapporo International Short Film Festival in Japan, also taking part in the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival in the US and the Religion Today Film Festival in Italy, the documentary was shown at the Regina International Film Festival & Awards in Canada, the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival in Greece.
‘I Won’t Remain Alone’ won the best documentary on survival of indigenous peoples at the Parnu International Documentary Film Festival in Estonia.
The Saratov Sufferings’ main prize, the Prize of the Governor of the Saratov Region Saratov Harmony, went to ‘There Will Be No More Night’ by Eléonore Weber from France.
Russian filmmaker Lilia Vyugina’s ‘Khardzhiev, The Last Russian Futurist’ received the Prize of the Head of Administration of the Municipal Formation ‘City of Saratov’ – ‘From Saratov with Love’.
‘Distance Plan’ by Vladimir Golovnev from Russia won the Prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Saratov Region.
Tomislav Jelincic’s ‘Storkman’ from Croatia and Italy took home the prize for the first confident step into the profession.
The Saratov Sufferings International Film Festival of Documentary Drama is the only film festival in the world which deals with the genre of documentary drama. It was created 15 years ago and takes place every year in September in Saratov, Russia.
The festival is looking for wonderful independent documentary films from all over the world.
The 15th edition of the Saratov Sufferings International Film Festival of Documentary Drama took place in Saratov on September 16-20.
